About

Raising yoga therapy to a profession.

A Singapore-registered, non-profit professional body uniting yoga therapists, teachers, institutions and researchers across Asia.

Our story

Founded in 2016, built on decades of practice.

AYTA was created to realise a long-held wish among yoga therapists and physicians: a common platform to share expertise, set standards and grow the field together.

Envisioned by pioneers whose work spans back to the 1980s, AYTA brings research-based knowledge and clinical experience to a single mission — establishing yoga therapy as a respected, evidence-informed complement to modern care.

Today the association registers and certifies practitioners, accredits training schools, convenes an annual international conference, and maintains a public directory the community can trust.

Questions

Membership FAQ.

Which membership is right for me?

If you are still studying, start with Student. Practising yoga teachers choose Yoga Teacher / Professional. Those with 300+ hours of therapy training qualify for Certified Therapist. Schools and centres choose Institutional, and brands or allied-health organisations choose Associate.

What do I need to provide to join?

To create your membership we ask only for basic details and your membership type. You complete your full profile — certificates, training hours, photo and bio — afterwards from your member dashboard, at your own pace.

How does verification work?

Once you submit your qualification documents, the AYTA team reviews them. Approved members receive a verifiable certificate and a “verified” badge on their public directory listing.

Is the fee annual?

Yes, membership renews every 12 months. You can manage or cancel renewal any time from your dashboard.

Can I upgrade later?

Absolutely. As your training and experience grow you can move to a higher pathway and only pay the difference.

Accreditation & standards

Credibility, defined and defended.

AYTA accreditation signals that a practitioner or school meets an internationally referenced benchmark for safe, competent yoga therapy.

Programmes

Four accreditation pathways.

Programme 01

School accreditation

Structured review of curriculum, contact hours and faculty for training providers.

Programme 02

Therapist certification

Individual review confirming therapy training hours and supervised practice.

Programme 03

CPD provider approval

Recognition for continuing-education providers and approved course catalogues.

Programme 04

Public registry

A verifiable, searchable record of every credential AYTA has issued.

How it works

A clear, four-step review.

The same rigorous, transparent process applies whether you are a school seeking accreditation or an individual seeking certification.

Apply

Submit your application with curriculum, contact hours, faculty and supporting documents through the AYTA portal.

Document review

The AYTA standards committee reviews your submission against the published benchmark for your category.

Assessment & interview

Where needed, a reviewer confirms training quality, supervised practice and ethical standards.

Award & listing

On approval you receive your accreditation certificate, the verified badge, and a place in the public registry.

Why it matters

Accreditation is trust, made visible.

For students choosing a school, patients choosing a therapist, and partners choosing who to work with, an AYTA mark answers one question: can I rely on this?

Protects the public

A clear standard means people receive yoga therapy that is safe, ethical and competently delivered.

Raises the field

Shared benchmarks lift the quality and reputation of yoga therapy as a recognised discipline.

Opens doors

Accredited schools and certified therapists gain referrals, recognition and the AYTA verified badge.

Case studies

What accreditation changed.

“Accreditation gave our 800-hour programme an external benchmark. Enrolment grew once students saw the AYTA mark.”

About · What is yoga therapy

What is yoga therapy?

A holistic, individualised use of yoga practices to support health — distinct from a general yoga class.

Yoga therapy is a system of healing in which a specific condition is approached holistically, adapting yoga’s tools — postures, breath, relaxation and meditation — to a person’s individual needs.

Where a general yoga class is one practice for a whole room, yoga therapy is tailored to the individual and most often works alongside non-communicable and lifestyle conditions, complementing conventional care rather than replacing it.

It rests on two pillars: the heritage of traditional practice and the growing body of peer-reviewed research that lets us apply it safely and effectively.

About · Country chapters

One standard, local presence.

Country chapters licence the AYTA brand and run membership locally — scaling the association across Asia without central overhead.

Each chapter brings AYTA’s standards, credentials and conferences to its own country, in its own language, while staying part of one connected network.

Chapters recruit and support members, host local events, and represent AYTA to schools and health bodies in their region.
