Dr. R. Nagarathna

Dr. R. Nagarathna is one of the pioneers in the field of Yoga therapy. She is the Dean, Division of yoga and life sciences and chief consultant at Arogyadhama, S-VYASA. She did her MBBS from Bangalore Medical College, MD in internal medicine from Mysore Medical College, her MRCP and FRCP from Edinburg, UK. She has been working tirelessly for making yoga an evidence based practice for human ailments. She has over 80 publications in national and international journals and has written 11 books on yoga therapy for different ailments.

She has been felicitated with numerous prestigious awards.

  • “Patanjali Award “(2000) for contributions in the field of yoga by Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy(ISM & H), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , Government of India, arranged through Director, ISM & H in Bangalore.
  • “Dr P S Shankar Vaidya Shree” award (2001) by Dr P S Shankar Pratishtana, Gulbarga.
  • “Woman of Excellence” award (2003) by the Badaganadu Sangha Association, Bangalore, for service to humanity through Yoga Therapy.
  • “Karnataka Kalpavalli” award (1995) for ‘Service to women through Yoga’ awarded by ‘Shaswathi’ a women’s organization, NMKRV College, Bangalore.
  • “Doctor’s Day” award (July 1992) by IMA, Bangalore branch.

An eminent speaker, Dr.Nagarathna has done several presentations and spoken at various national and international conferences. Her presentation on the topic - ‘Yoga – Role in the management of Psychosomatic Disorders’, won her laurels as the best speaker in the CME (Continued Medical Education) conference, Varanasi. Another noteworthy address was to a highly charged group of Yoga loving spiritually oriented doctors (about 150) at a Conference on Holistic Medicine organized by Jupiter Multi Specialty Hospital, Thane, Mumbai. Her presentation on ‘Integrative Yoga for Holistic Health’ at MMMCON 2014 (Mind, Medicine, Meditation Conference) on 16th April, organized by the Dept. of Physiology, AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi was an eye opener to the medical fraternity into the progressive research done at S-VYASA. Her presentation of the summary of the work done at S-VYASA and the new lab facility fascinated the attendees of the conference and won acclaim from senior professionals present.
