S-Vyasa

Guiding support to AYTA, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) is a unique world-renowned Yoga University translating the vision and teachings of Swami Vivekananda to action through various academic higher education programs. It is continually flourishing under the leadership of internationally well know yoga guru, respected Chancellor, Padma Shri Dr. H. R. Nagendra, who is the most sought after yoga veteran, as a guide and mentor by all the related organizations and research projects and leaders.

S-VYASA was registered as a charitable institution (1986) with an aim to promote Yoga as a socially relevant Science. In 2002, UGC named S-VYASA as a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. S-VYASA is also the First ISO 2001:2008 Certified Yoga University. The Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India accorded Centre of Excellence in Yoga to S-VYASA. This institute has an Advanced Centre for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

S-VYASA specializes in Yoga Research and Yoga Therapy, substantiating scientific validation through research over the years. S-VYASA is the only Yoga University as of today offering various Yoga Courses in India. Here students undergo life training and character-building education with Yoga as a way of Life. Here, gurukula way of education is combined with a modern scientific approach while laying emphasis on practical hands-on experience and in-depth research.

Anvesana, Research facility at S-VYASA was founded over 30 years ago, in the long-sighted belief to restore the lost heritage and tradition of Yoga practices with an evidence base by founders are Dr. H R Nagendra & Dr. R Nagaratna, long-time associates of S-VYASA. It has an exhaustive Yoga Library with a wide-ranging collection of 15,000 books and videos along with a digital library that has a few thousand online journals. A valuable resource to various budding yoga professionals. One of its publications, IJOY or International Journal of Yoga has gained popularity over 4 years of its existence and got PubMed status from the very second issue. On the IJOY website, one can read the entire set of research papers published freely. This journal is being improvised on a regular basis and acts as a platform bringing together all good experimental researches on Yoga. IJOY-PPP is the other dimension of IJOY which is meant essentially to unearth the hidden dimensions of our Shastras, in the three areas of Philosophy, Para-psychology, and Psychology. S-VYASA has successfully published 284 research papers, and all have been indexed in PubMed / Medline or Psychlit / Psychinfo.

S-VYASA’s main objectives are - to provide for instructions and training in Yoga and Spiritual lore as propounded by Swami Vivekananda, the famous Indian monk who heralded the grandeur of Sanatana Dharma (the Laws of Creation) in the West through his epoch-making speech in the Parliament of Religions on Sep 11, 1893, for total Personality Development. It aims to provide for research and for the advancement and dissemination of all the streams of yoga and its applications to offer solutions for major challenges of the Globe. It also undertakes extra-mural studies, extension programs, and field-outreach activities to contribute to bringing Peace, Poise, Harmony, Love, Health & Happiness.

S-VYASA has carried itself as a Centre of Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology, authorized by the Indian Council of Medical Research and has an Advanced Centre for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy also sponsored by Indian Council of Medical Research. Through well-designed Yoga Courses in S-VYASA, it has produced 114 PhDs, 51 MScs, and over 410 students in various branches. They have so far produced 25 PhDs and 21 MDs. Aspiring students can pursue professional prospects through Academic divisions – Yoga– Spirituality, Yoga- Life sciences, Yoga– Physical sciences, Yoga– Management studies, and Yoga – Humanities.

S-VYASA has also signed MoUs with about 20 leading Universities and Research Centers all over the world for conducting collaborative research in Yoga. Research Projects with the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, USA, The Central Mexican University, USA, East Tennessee State University, USA, Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, Miryang City, South Korea, and Memorial Hospital, Department of Complementary Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey are in progress.
